Nice to know: Mitsubishi Evo 4 5 6 gauge clusters

I have noticed that there is a lot of ignorance on social media about the speedometers of the CN/-CP9A Evos. There are also many false claims being made.

In this article, I would like to show which speedometers were actually produced and how to recognize replicas.

OEM production

JDM EVO IV

Many people say about the speedos that they are white. But they are actually silver with orange/red scale. The printed part number is: MR298135

Speedometer scale: 180 kph
Tachometer scale: 9.000 rpm

JDM EVO V

At first glance it looks like an EVO 4 speedometer. However, the difference can be seen on the speedometer scale. The thick lines on the Evo 4 are trapezoidal and rectangular on the Evo 5. The electrical circuit of the speedometer board is different from the Evo 4.. The printed part number is: MR444140

Speedometer scale: 180 kph
Tachometer scale: 9.000 rpm

JDM EVO VI

The Evo 6’s instrument cluster is characterised by the blue speedometer dials. There are no technical differences to the Evo 5, but different bulbs are used for the lighting (Evo 6 blue caps / Evo 4/5 white caps). The printed part number is: MR480418

Speedometer scale: 180 kph
Tachometer scale: 9.000 rpm

JDM EVO VI Tommi Mäkinen Edition

The Evo 6 TME’s instrument cluster is characterised by the black speedometer dials with orange scale. The printed part number is: MR532771

Speedometer scale: 180 kph
Tachometer scale: 9.000 rpm

EDM EVO VI Tommi Mäkinen Edition

The EDM Evo 6 TME’s instrument cluster is characterized by the black speedometer dials with orange scale up to 260 kph with additional mph scale an. The scale of the tachometer is different from the JDM one. The printed part number is: MR559537 (Retrofit speedometer: MR559869)

Speedometer scale: 260 kph / 160 mph
Tachometer scale: 9.000 rpm

EDM EVO VI RS-2

The EDM Evo 6 RS-2’s instrument cluster is characterised by the black speedometer dials with white scale up to 260 kph. The font is non-italic. RALLIART UK used that cluster for the RS-X (Sticker: MPH and RALLIART).The printed part number is: ?? (Retrofit speedometer: MR444436)

Speedometer scale: 260 kph
Tachometer scale: 9.000 rpm

Famous tuners

Ralliart speedometer unit

To be clear, there was no production of a complete RalliArt gauge cluster. You could only buy the speeometer itself. The dial is silver like the EVO 4/5 dials with orange/red and grey numbers. The part number is: RAY61001

Speedometer scale: 300 kph

Mine’s / MAS speedometer unit

Super rare but beautiful. Mine’s built three variants:
– silver-red for Evo 4/5
– blue white for Evo 6 (MAS looks similar but not identical)
– black-orange for Evo 6 TME

Speedometer scale: 280 kph

VALDI Sport speedometer unit

Super rare but beautiful. The font is non-italic (like RS2). VALDI Sport  built two variants:
– blue white for Evo 6
– black-orange for Evo 6 TME

Speedometer scale: 260 kph
